It should be first mentioned that our 2005 survey has not concerned the EU countries as at June 1st, 2004. Only some few actions have been noted in some countries in transition (Federation of Russia, etc.)
With which partners and which financing ? In which geographical areas ? About what kind of urban Topics ?

The map enhances the wide distribution of the missions driven by the agencies within the developing and emerging countries.

Several particular comments must here be added :
  • various missions have been driven in Latin America, for example in Chile during the 90's, but more actions look to done now in Mexico & Central America ;
  • studies are also set up in Africa (the agency of Lyon works in Addis-Ababa & Porto Novo / Benin). A significant trend appeared recently in North Africa, mostly in Morocco, in which 7 agencies are now involved into cooperation with local municipal agencies.
  • Within the Middle-East zone, if many actions have been driven in Egypt &Lebanon by the Greater Paris agency / Iaurif along the last 30 years, the Paris agency / Apur works also in Teheran and in Cairo, while the Dunkerque one tries to stand present in Palestine
  • Asia is the main growth area for the missions of the urban agencies, being now some 25% of the total : several of them have been working in Vietnam, China and Cambodia, and since 2001 in India.
